Spring bronze weatherstripping for doors and windows.

A traditional way to seal drafts while keeping the original door, window sash, frame, and trim.  The bronze flexes as the door or window closes and springs back when it opens.

Sold in 100' rolls.  Available in widths from 3/4" to 1-3/8".

Installation

Choose a width slightly narrower than the thickness of the door or window sash.

Use solid brass nails, spaced about 1" apart. Punch through the bronze and into the jamb with an awl, then drive the nail. You can also predrill the bronze with a 1/16" bit before installation.

At hinges and strike plates, you have a few options:

  • Stop the spring bronze and use felt or stick-on weatherstrip around the hardware.
  • Carefully notch the bronze around the hardware. Watch for sharp edges.
  • Run the bronze over the hinges, but this will prevent removing the hinge from the jamb without first removing the weatherstrip.

Pro Tip: Practice with a 1' piece first. It’s a good way to get a feel for how the spring bronze bends, nails, and seals before working with the full length.
