Pure Tung Oil Finish for Wood

The look
Deep, warm, and rich, without the built-up look of polyurethane. That's the classic tung oil look: a soft, hand-rubbed patina that ages beautifully and only gets better with time. It's the finish used on fine furniture, staircases, and heirloom pieces that are built to be looked at up close.

What it is
A pure, polymerized tung oil finish for interior wood — hand-crafted in Rhode Island, USA by Sutherland Welles Ltd. "Polymerized" means the oil is heat-treated before bottling, so it cures faster and builds a tougher finish than raw tung oil. It penetrates the wood and builds a protective finish in one step, letting the natural grain show through instead of hiding under a heavy surface film.

How it works
Apply by hand-rubbing or brushing on a thin, even coat with the grain. Let each coat dry fully before adding the next. Most wood species reach a full sheen in about 4 coats.

Pro tip: adjust the sheen
This is the full-strength formula, straight from the can. Want less sheen? Thin it with mineral spirits — more mineral spirits means a more matte look.

Why it holds up
Pure tung oil cures harder and resists water better than linseed oil, and it won't yellow or amber over time — so the finish stays true to the wood's natural color for the long haul. It's GreenGuard Gold certified for low chemical emissions, and Sutherland Welles lists it under their food-safe finishes line (once fully cured, as with any finish).
