What Should I Measure Before Installing an Interlocking Bronze Threshold?
Share
Before cutting the door, measure and fit the opening around the actual threshold you are installing.
1. Measure the opening for threshold length
Measure the opening where the threshold will sit. The bronze threshold is cut to length and notched as needed to fit around the jambs.
2. Dry-fit and level the threshold
Place the threshold in the opening before modifying the door. Shim beneath it until it sits level and stable.
3. Mark the threshold and J-hook position
With the threshold in its final position, mark the frame where the threshold and J-hook will align. Transfer those marks to the door before removing it.
4. Use the interlocking part of the threshold as the clearance reference
Classic Door's installation method trims the door so the bottom of the door sits about 1/8 inch above the interlocking part of the threshold.
5. Prepare the door bottom for the J-hook
The installation guide shows a 3/8-inch rabbet in the bottom edge of the door for the J-hook.
Do not cut the door based on a generic threshold height alone. Fit and mark the actual threshold in the opening first.
