What is the difference between concealed and surface-mounted interlocking weatherstripping?

Concealed interlocking weatherstripping is fitted into rabbets and kerfs so most of the system disappears when the door is closed. Surface-mounted weatherstripping is fastened more visibly to the door or frame.

For traditional wood doors, concealed bronze gives the cleanest historic appearance.
